A bold, grounding roast — rich in depth, layered in tradition, and as enduring as the peak it’s named after.

Mam Tor Dark is a tribute to the ancient landscape of Derbyshire — named for the “Mother Hill” that has stood as a landmark for centuries. Like its namesake, this roast is steady, timeless, and grounded. Crafted for more traditional coffee drinkers, it bridges the gap between speciality clarity and the comforting depth of darker roasts. Roasted longer to draw out caramelised sugars and bold flavours, it’s versatile across brewing styles — espresso, cafetière, moka pot, or filter.

Tasting notes:

  • A darker roast, smooth and resonant — with deep chocolate and roasted nut at the forefront.

  • Subtle smoky sweetness rounds into a syrupy body, finishing with a mellow, lingering richness.

  • Ideal for those who prefer a classic, full-bodied cup that strikes a balance between strength and approachability.

This is coffee with backbone: dependable, familiar, yet refined through Cromford Coffee’s commitment to organic specialty coffees and small-batch craft.

Why You'll Love It:

  • Bold, smooth, and approachable — without bitterness.

  • Versatile across brew methods, from espresso to French press.

  • A darker roast that honours tradition while holding to modern speciality values.

Perfect For:

  • Those who want strength and body, but still value balance.

  • Coffee needs time to de-gas after roasting. For espresso, let it rest for a few days before brewing.

    • Espresso:

Start with a 1:2 ratio (18 g in → 36 g out) in 25–30 seconds. Adjust the grind to taste. Expect caramel sweetness with a rounded finish.

    • Stovetop / Moka Pot:

Fill basket evenly, avoid tamping, and brew gently. Produces a rich, chocolatey cup.

    • Filter / Drip:

Aim for a brew ratio of 60g/l with faster brew times for pourover (2-3mins) and a longer brew time for immersion brew methods such as the cafetiere (4 mins). Adjust your grind size to taste.
